VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Children’s Advocate Volunteer – May assist with kids’ activities throughout the day.  Help prepare group projects.  Assist with interactive child care during support groups.  May help to facilitate children’s support group meetings.

Legal Aid Volunteer – Accompany a client to the courthouse to support her through the legal process.  This is an “on call” position.

Crisis (phone) Line Coverage – Answer the phone for staff and perform other clerical support work at the shelter.  Afternoon, evening and weekend help is most needed.

Transportation Provider – When no public means of transportation is available, volunteers take shelter residents to and from important appointments.  Most destinations are in Sheboygan County.

Groundskeeper/Maintenance/Handyman – All the tasks that support the operation of a large home need to be done year round at the shelter.  Examples are yard work, snow shoveling, “fix-it” work and carpentry tasks.  Great for a team of workers looking for an occasional project.

Cleaning Volunteer – Assist with seasonal or occasional cleaning projects for the public rooms at the shelter.  This is a great opportunity for a church or service group.

Sexual Assault Volunteer – Special training is needed for this “on call” position, which gives a victim support by providing a physical presence at the hospital or as she files a report.

Administrative Support – Assist with bulk mailings and other projects at our administrative offices.

Special Events Volunteer – Each year Safe Harbor benefits from fundraisers conducted on our behalf by groups and organizations.  Often there is a need for volunteers to work at the fundraisers.  You can help Safe Harbor--and have a good time--by volunteering for one of these events:

Heard It Thru the Grapevine – Safe Harbor’s own event, held in February

Powder Puff Derby – women’s fishing derby in July

Plymouth Professional and Business Women’s Cheesehead Chase – July, in Plymouth

Younkers Community Day Sale – November:  work the day of the sale or sell advance tickets

Festival of Trees – December:  work a shift during the weekend on behalf of Safe Harbor

Our cell phone fundraiser program is sponsored by Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), a program of cell phone recycling company GRC Wireless Recycling (www.grcrecycling.com). Through Shelter Alliance, nonprofit organizations raise funds through the collection & recycling of used cell phones, and businesses & consumers donate & recycle cell phones to benefit nonprofit participants.
